Brent Batla, Author of the Swordsong Series

I am an Assistant Fire Chief in Cedar Hill, Texas, by trade, and a fantasy author by passion. When I was 13 years old, I sat down at the role-playing game table for my first adventure, and I was immediately and forever hooked! I was fascinated by the “theatre of the mind” as we travelled through wonderful and terrifying worlds of might, magic, and mystery. I was always the note-taker of the group and it quickly developed into a hobby of creating short stories of our exploits. Somehow, more than thirty years have now passed since I took my first fateful steps in those fantasy worlds, and it is hard to believe that they have led to the current path that I am on today. Many of those fond memories of exciting adventures have heavily inspired the writing of the Swordsong Series, and have created within me a deep desire to contribute something very meaningful and worthy to the genre that I have come to love.

I was born in Houston, Texas, and I am a graduate of Oklahoma State University and the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. I have spent more than three decades in public service and the fire service. My wife, Jessica, is the better half you see in the photo above.

Rise of the Blademaster, my first novel, began the Swordsong Series in 2021 and returned in a revised edition in 2026. Book Two, Wrath of the Warlock, was released on September 23, 2026.

Therefore, I humbly and eagerly present to you the Swordsong Series: Rise of the Blademaster and Wrath of the Warlock.
